What does a sales & marketing manager do?

Hi, I’m writing a novel in which I want the hero to be a sales and marketing manager in the automotive industry. So if one of you out there know a thing or two about this field, I’d love to know more. I tried google and wikipedia, but still, I need something from someone who has experienced it.

Thank you ^_^

These are usually two different job functions with different responsibilities. A sales manager will recruit, train and motivate salesmen. He will usually continue working with his salesmen to help them hone their skills. He will also introduce sales personnel to new products and services.

A marketing manager may be over the sales manager. Sales is part of marketing. The marketing manager has broader job responsibilities. These may include market research, developing collateral materials and promotional materials and working with production and advertising agencies to promote the company or products. He is usually assigned the task of developing an annual marketing plan. The marketing manage is usually not directly involved in selling but will have responsibility for identifying and developing markets and expanding market share. Many people confuse the function of sales and marketing.

How can i start my own niche market of insurance product?

I have an idea for a type of insurance that is currently not available… Can anyone give me a basic rundown of how to create, start selling a new product?

Well, first you figure out the claims costs. You’ll need actuaries for that – how many clients, how to rate the risks, and expected/projected losses. You use that info to calculate rates. Then, if you’re planning on selling this yourself, for your own company, you have to get millions of dollars to pay future claims, and put them off to the side, before you can start selling.

Then, you can bring your financials, along with the sample policy form, and rates, to your state insurance commissioner. First they’ll review the financials, then look at the loss calculations from the actuaries, then they’ll look at the sample policy forms for legal compliance. At any of these steps they can shoot you down.

Most of the time, when people tell me they have a great product idea that’s not currently available, it’s actually not available because you can’t charge enough to cover the risk. Private unemployment coverage, loss of a job insurance that pays your mortgage, cosmetic surgery coverage, that kinda stuff. Stuff people wish was out there, but don’t realize, you can’t make money off of it.

Where can I find tips for online marketing strategies?

Books, magazines, websites or any other source that can help me learn how to effectively market my business online.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is to first set up a website and publish its domain name on major search directories such as Google.com, Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?... and MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. In a sense, these search directories are a very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using such "generic" queries will not be able to discover your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website, in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, "Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – "Keywords" are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on Yahoo.com: Begin with the search query "pizza downtown los angeles." It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where "Pizza Next Door" is ranked. It’s in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door’s high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo’s publication guidelines.

Good luck!

How to write an effective business plan. How to perform market research on local marinas?

I am writing a business plan to open a new marina. I have been to S.C.O.R.E. and I am having a difficult time with market research and what the expectations of a business plan really are.

As a computer business consultant, I have had the privilege of helping quite a few online companies go through the business plan phase of start up. I recommend this software package from Palo Alto as it does a great job for a do it yourself-er. It has 500 templates to choose from.

They even have state and county wide market research on marinas in your area. http://www.paloalto.com/market_research/?affiliate=sequimpc

I am making the assumption that if you are going to put out the money to open a marina, $300 is within your budget.

TOP TEN DO’S

1. Prepare a complete business plan for any business you are considering.
2. Use the business plan templates furnished in each session.
3. Complete sections of your business plan as you proceed through the course.
4. Research (use search engines) to find business plans that are available on the Internet.
5. Package your business plan in an attractive kit as a selling tool.
6. Submit your business plan to experts in your intended business for their advice.
7. Spell out your strategies on how you intend to handle adversities.
8. Spell out the strengths and weaknesses of your management team.
9. Include a monthly one-year cash flow projection.
10. Freely and frequently modify your business plans to account for changing conditions.

TOP TEN DON’TS

1. Be optimistic (on the high side) in estimating future sales.
2. Be optimistic (on the low side) in estimating future costs.
3. Disregard or discount weaknesses in your plan. Spell them out.
4. Stress long-term projections. Better to focus on projections for your first year.
5. Depend entirely on the uniqueness of your business or the success of an invention.
6. Project yourself as someone you’re not. Be brutally realistic.
7. Be everything to everybody. Highly focused specialists usually do best.
8. Proceed without adequate financial and accounting know-how.
9. Base your business plan on a wonderful concept. Test it first.
10. Skip the step of preparing a business plan before starting.

How can I find marketing/sales agent in conference & exhibition area?

I am in charge of the marketing/sales of an international conference held in China. Which is the best way to market it oversea? Finding an agent? How can I find one on commission basis after sales? Thanks for help in advance.

Hi Jade! A few questions for you to get you pointed in the right direction:

1. Is your organization based in the States or is it also based in China?
2. Are you marketing/selling to organizations in China or the States?

Might have some advice for you based on the answers to the above questions. (I’ve got over 20 years of experience in the meetings/conference industry.)

Warm Regards,
Christine

How do I write a Marketing Model relating to a distributor of my licensed product?

Our licensor has asked my company for our business model as it relates to two of our distributors that have exclusive selling rights for a niche market. Honestly, we are using these distibutors because they were recommended by the licensor — but I cannot say that. I am unsure how to convey our strategy other than the standard "Four P’s" approach. Does anyone have any insight here???

Describe:
the profile of the client (age, income, zone, education),
the place where be sell including inside the store.
the price which is compared with similar products,
and advertising or communication, it includes advertising, promotional events, PR, etc.
The more you describe it , the more you can control it.

How much does a Pay-Per-Click Buyers / Online Marketing Account Managers Make?

How much does a Pay-Per-Click Buyers / Online Marketing Account Managers Make? I can’t seem to find any salary information for these internet jobs like PPC and SEO.

In my honest opinion, if someone is really good at PPC / Online Marketing, he/she would not look for a job.

I have no clue what is the salary range for such jobs, but here is a gift from me. :-)

Grab this f*r*e*e interview to know exactly how someone with limited Internet Marketing experience makes more than US$ 9,000 per month through a simple and immediately ‘do’able PPC system.

Interested? Visit http://www.internetmarketingtoolsntips.com/hypervre_casestudy1.pdf

BTW, if you are further interested, you will also find the link to get a f*r*e*e copy of the software that he uses to earn such amounts. It is not a trial limited-period version, but obviously it has some limitations over the paid version.

Caution: Don’t give this link to people you don’t like. You might land up beside them on the Hawai beach!

Good Luck,
